The Village of Midvale was platted in 1888 and incorporated soon after, taking its name from its location at the midpoint between New Philadelphia (the Tuscarawas County seat) and Uhrichsville. The village sits in the Tuscarawas River valley and crosses portions of three townships: Goshen, Mill, and Warwick.
Today, Midvale covers about three-quarters of a square mile and is home to roughly 700 residents. The village operates its own police department, contracts with the Village of Dennison for fire protection and Smith Ambulance Service for emergency medical services, and is currently transitioning its water utility to Aqua Ohio under a 2024 asset purchase agreement.
Children in the village attend schools in the Indian Valley Local School District. Midvale Elementary School (kindergarten through fifth grade) is located within the village and serves about 400 students. Indian Valley Middle School is in the nearby village of Tuscarawas, and Indian Valley High School is in Gnadenhutten.
Midvale Speedway, on the eastern edge of the village, has been a community institution for generations and continues to draw racing fans throughout the season.
